‘Chromata’ exhibition series

After five years since last exhibiting at StolenSpace, PichiAvo returns to London – a city pivotal to their early careers – with a series that pushes their dialogue between antiquity and urban culture into bold new territory.

‘Chromata’ explores contrast, layering, and the play between absence and presence across painting, sculpture, and installation. Central to this new series is the unveiling of ‘Chromata’, a new technique that employs contrast as a defining principle. Rooted in colour theory, works juxtapose grayscale with full colour, reducing visual noise to heighten vibrancy. This use and deliberate absence of colour recalls how classical sculptures – now perceived as white marble – were once painted in vivid hues. In reimagining them as dynamic and bright, PichiAvo honour the past while responding to the present. Layering and scratching further define the series: paint is applied then removed to reveal what lies beneath, evoking histories resurfacing over time. Much like the ever-changing walls of street art, these works carry a sense of mystery and multiplicity, inviting open reflection and engagement.

The exhibition opens on October 16th at StolenSpace in London.
