‘Élleipsi’ exhibition in Barcelona

PichiAvo’s exhibition ‘Élleipsi’ at SELTZ by Ritter Ferrer explores the idea of absence as an active visual and conceptual force. Rather than presenting complete and stable images, the exhibition is built around fragmentation, erosion and interruption. Classical figures appear partially erased, covered or deteriorated, transforming emptiness into a space where meaning is reconstructed by the viewer.

Inspired by recent travels through Athens, Rome, Pompeii and Naples, the exhibition reflects on how the symbolic power of classical art often resides in its incomplete condition. Ruins, damaged frescoes and fragmented sculptures are not treated as lost objects, but as images that continue generating meaning through time, memory and transformation. In Élleipsi, absence becomes a mechanism that activates imagination and invites active participation from the spectator.

A particularly significant aspect of the exhibition is the incorporation of fresco techniques into PichiAvo’s visual language. Traditionally associated with monumentality and permanence, fresco is here subjected to processes of scraping, wear and fragmentation, creating a tension between preservation and disappearance. This dialogue also connects two seemingly opposite traditions: the historical permanence of classical art and the ephemeral nature of urban art.

Rather than confronting classical culture and street art, Élleipsi reveals how both share a common purpose: occupying public space and shaping collective visual memory. Through layered surfaces, incomplete bodies and archaeological textures, PichiAvo reflects on the fragility of images and on our constant need to reconstruct meaning from what is missing.
